Mother's Milk Documentary  (in production)

Co-Producers Kevin Douglas West and Jarred King have teamed up for the second time to produce a moving documentary about the critical need for human milk to be given to premature infants in the neonatal intensive care units.

"There is a rising rate of prematurity in this country," says Dr. Susan Landers at Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX.  Today one in eight babies is born premature.  Research is just now beginning to be published stating the life-saving benefits of human milk in the NICU yet only 35% of NICUs in this country use human milk.

Cost seems to be the primary reason hospitals continue to use cow-based formula.  "Why pay for human milk to be processed when the formula companies give away their product for free?" sites West in a recent interview.  "Something has to change and I hope this film can help start that movement," says West.

Production has included interviews with dozens of academics, healthcare providers, donor moms, and recipients.  Shooting began on November 18, 2009 and is scheduled to finish in early June 2010.
